Lecture by Louvre Abu Dhabi at ADSM

In collaboration with Louvre Abu Dhabi and to celebrate its second-year anniversary this month, ADSM organized a lecture delivered by Amna Hassan Alhammadi, Community Engagement Officer and Faten Naeem Rouchdy, Resource Center Unit head at Louvre.

The lecture mainly talked about the Museum Narrative, Research Center, Upcoming International Exhibitions and on how Students/Faculty members can participate in Louvre’s Educational programs.

The museum opened in November 2017 on Saadiyat Island in a building designed by notable architect Jean Nouvel. It also features special exhibition spaces, a Children’s Museum, an auditorium, restaurants, retail shops and a Research Center.

During the lecture, Amna mentioned that Louvre Abu Dhabi celebrates the universal creativity of mankind and invites audiences to see humanity in a new light. Through its

innovative approach, the museum focuses on building understanding across different cultures. Also, she invited ADSM Community for the current and upcoming International Exhibitions at the Museum such as 10,000 Years of Luxury, Furusiyya: The Art of Chivalry and Charlie Chaplin.

Whereas, Faten gave an overview on Louvre’s Research Center as the official opening is expected next month. She encouraged ADSM students and faculty to make use of its collections and archives. She mentioned that it will include 3,500 books in English, Arabic and French. In addition, the collection to include journals, monographs and catalogues.

Louvre Abu Dhabi is the first universal museum in the Arab World which translates the spirit of openness of cultures. The museum champions the cultural achievements of mankind, from prehistory to present. The Galleries are not separated by Geography but in chronological order. This is to induce respect, curiosity, learning and self-reflection.
